DIY Sugar Scrub

This past weekend, I finally had a chance to try making a DIY Sugar Scrub (I originally had this idea back in August after checking the price in Bath & Body Works — $16 for $13 oz. )

In the spirit of Pinterest, savings, and generally wanting to be crafty, I decided to make the Sugar Scrub into a DIY gift.

I started with a recipe that I found through another blog, plastic Christmas Containers from the Dollar Tree  and the following ingredients that were easily found at Target:

Dollar Tree Containers

1/2 cup coconut oil

1 and 1/2 cup sugar

1 tablespoon peppermint extract

1 drop green food coloringMint Sugar Scrub

Step 1: Wash the plastic containers with dish soap and water, set them out to dry.IMG_1590.JPG

Step 2: Measure 1/2 cup of coconut oil and melt it in the microwave for 20 seconds

Step 3: In a bowl, combine melted coconut oil with 1 and 1/2 cup sugar (it looks like snow)IMG_1592.JPG

Step 4: stir in 1 tablespoon peppermint extract and 1 drop of green food coloring.

(I put the peppermint extract and food coloring drop in a measuring cup together and slowly poured it into the bowl to make sure I would get the light green mint color instead of a darker green)

—the original amount of this recipe was only enough for 1 and 1/2 of the containers shown below, you should adjust the quantity based on the size/ number of containers you have

What do you think about DIY gifts? Have you given or received them?
