Glossies Made Me Do It – April 2017

Glossies made me do it...!Welcome to the April edition of “Glossies Made Me Do It” link-up. Here’s what I’ve been reading.

The Oprah magazine article  “Shelf Awareness” pg. 63 made me feel guilty for all of the old cosmetics I’ve kept. I know that makeup expires, but it’s so hard to toss out something that’s not empty yet.

Another article in this month’s Oprah called “Kinder, Gentler” on pg. 96 made me happy.

Of all the verses and rules people like to memorize and quote, the Golden Rule is the only one I need.

When we learned it in kindergarten, the teachers would tell us to put on our “good manners gloves”. We would recite ” Do unto others as you want them to do to you” as we traced each finger of the imaginary gloves.

During wedding planning, I became interested in wedding etiquette and occasionally I like to read this blog/advice column on manners for an entertaining take on everyday situations.

Seeing Hilary Duff on the cover of Redbook made me remember how much I liked the show “Lizzie McGuire”

I  watched the first 2 seasons of “Younger” and I love that her character Kelsey is also someone viewers can imagine being friends with. Kelsey is ambitious, confident, and a risk -taker, but also has insecure moments and dating struggles. My favorite thing about her is that she believes in helping other women succeed.

That’s all for this month! If you missed March’s Glossies, you can find them here.

Wedding Makeup

One of the ways I’m saving on the wedding budget is DIY makeup and hair.

My Matron Of Honor is a makeup aficionado and did my makeup for senior prom and one of my besties is an Estee Lauder sales rep trained in makeup application –  we’ve got this covered!

Although I occasionally write about beauty products on Makeover Monday, I’m really not that into makeup. Usually I’m rushing too much in the morning to put on anything more than a < 5 minute Face.

Last year, some friends started selling Mary Kay and I picked up the Mary Kay CC Cream. I like how it feels smooth and light-weight.

My aunt always shares her Clinique free gifts, so the Soft-Pressed Powder Blush is from her.

The rest is on my Sephora Shopping List:

Eye shadow in shades of gold and pink – Urban Decay Naked 3 eye palette

Defining eye liner crayon – Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner Pencil in Brown

lash lengthening mascara – L’ Oreal Paris Telescopic Original Mascara in Black

Kiss-proof lip color – Sephora Luster Matte Long-wear Lip Color in  Rose Luster

Have you tried any of these products?

Are there other beauty products that you would recommend?

Makeover Monday 6: Silky Wraps

This Makeover Monday, I want to share a product  that keeps my hair smooth & straight while I get my beauty sleep.

To keep my hair healthy, moisturized, and to help prevent breakage, I wrap my hair at night. While my first thought was to use a silk scarf, these easily fall off, so I needed a different solution.

Introducing Silky Wraps….

The Silky Wraps Wrap Cap is made of satin machine washable material and comes in several fun and pretty prints. The super strong Velcro keeps the wrap on even if you toss and turn.

While the product alone is impressive, I am even more excited that it was created by a black female entrepreneur named Roxy. Besides the wrap caps, her product line includes shower caps, bonnets, satin pillowcases and matching sleepwear.

Each order includes a handwritten Thank You from Roxy
Who are the beauty entrepreneurs you admire? Are you an entrepreneur yourself? Let me know in the comments : )

Perfume is a part of a morning routine but it can be expensive to purchase a bottle of your favorite designer brand, especially if you like to have a variety of scents

One way to create a perfume collection is to pick up samples from the mall at your favorite department stores. The girls at Sephora will  make a sample for you by spraying from a tester bottle into a sample size to keep in your purse.

What is your favorite perfume? Do you have a classic favorite or like to try popular new scents?

This Makeover Monday I’m featuring the NYC nail collection.

At about $2 each, this brand is the lowest cost nail polish I have been able to find (so I don’t feel guilty tossing 1 or 2 of these in my cart at Target). In addition to price and quality, a cosmetic line’s brand image and creative color names influence shoppers to make a purchase.

The fact that each shade is named after a New York land mark, really made me want to start collecting (Also, I started my collection around 2009 in the Gossip Girl days).
Grand Central Station
Big Apple Red Creme
Wall Street
Another favorite shade was called Uptown, which they no longer make anymore, but I’m looking forward to trying out Central Park and Times Square.

Revlon Color Stay eyeliner crayon – Cocoa

or Jordana Quickliner Eye Crayon – black
Loreal One Sweep eyeshadow – Playful for All Eyes
Clinique lash doubling mascara – black
Maybelline Baby Lips – Yummy Plummy
This routine is what I’m going to call my “5 minute Face”, really it probably takes less time than that. I’m no makeup expert and I generally don’t like tputting too many products on my face at one time or to spend a lot of time putting on makeup (I’m usually just heading out the door to work or excited to go wherever I’m going!).
Wearing just a touch of makeup makes me feel just a little more polished than wearing no makeup at all.
After I wash my face, I start with eyeliner. I like the eyeliner crayon because it goes on smooth, is not too messy, and I won’t poke my eye!
Next I use the Loreal One Sweep eyeshadow in Playful for All Eyes. It allows me to shadow and  highlight my eyes with 3 different shades without applying each separately and having to blend.
Then I apply some mascara to make my lashes look longer and put on Baby Lips which doubles as a sheer lip color and moisturizing lip balm.
Then I’m ready to go!

Makeover Monday: 2

Today’s Makeover Monday is all about pink products!

EOS – Strawberry Sorbet
Soap & Glory- The Righteous Butter
Clinique – color surge eyeshadow duo: Strawberry Fudge
Rimmel London – mini nailpolish: Cupcake Pink
EOS stands for evolution of smooth, and this lip balm comes in a variety of pretty colors and scents
Soap & Glory’s The Righteous Butter is made with Shea Butter and Aloe Vera and has a fresh, clean scent, perfect for moisturizing after a shower

The Strawberry Fudge Clinique duo is my favorite eyeshadow. I start with the darker color on the lower eyelid, then use the lighter color on top. I love that the light pink also has a touch of gold shimmer.

The Rimmel London nail polish has a 60 second dry time which is perfect – we can’t sit around waiting for our nails to dry – time is money!
